DAV Debating Round 2

On Thursday 6th May, students from Year 9 and 10 Debating and Public Speaking participated in Round 2 of the DAV Debating Competition run by the Debating Association of Victoria.

This competition was conducted in our school library via Zoom.

Students have been consolidating the knowledge and skills studied in their Debating and Public Speaking elective as they competed against other schools to deliver their points of view.

We had two teams compete at each year level:

Year 9

Topic: “That animal testing should be banned”

Year 10

Topic: “That we should enforce national service”

Team 1 - Noor Maky, Ellaf Ramadan, Sidra Khan

Team 1 - Lina Benserai, Zahraa Al Mosawe, Anausha Zeeshan

Team 2 - Nasreen Farah, Aishah Ahmed, Hana Nur Haraco

Team 2 - Ayesha Syeda, Roha Rehman, Salma Fiqi

Sirius College Eastmeadows teams were successful in two out of the four debates, and won two best speaker awards. Congratulations to Team 1 from Year 9 and Team 2 from Year 10 on their win, and congratulations to Ellaf Ramadan (Year 9) and Lina Benserai (Year 10) on being selected as the best speaker in their debate. This is the second time in a row that Lina has been awarded the best speaker in her debates; a fantastic effort!

Students also joined together for iftar and provided each other with stimulating conversation and discussion of the topics.

Congratulations to all teams for their outstanding efforts.
